Centre Managers, Benedict XVI Retreat Centre

 The Benedict XVI Retreat Centre, located at Grose Vale in the north west of Sydney, provides a modern and well-appointed retreat centre for schools and parishes, agencies, religious orders, communities and movements and other groups. The Centre, which opened in 2014, provides accommodation, catering, a chapel, and conference facilities as well as on site outdoor activities, all on a peaceful bushland setting.

An opportunity is available for suitably qualified and experienced centre managers to be engaged to manage the retreat centre. Please note that this engagement shall be on the basis of a Supply of Service Agreement, and is not an employment relationship.

Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, this agreement would be for an initial 3-year period, subject to renewal. The appointed managers expected to live on site and shall be provided with modern and private accommodation.

Duties of this role include:

  • Lead and inspire the team of employees and contractors, model practices that are innovative, whilst leading with the values and ethos of the Catholic Church and its tradition
  • Provide oversight in the correct and appropriate preparation of the Chapel and Sacristy
  • The management, strategic direction and promotion of the Centre
  • Achieving monthly sales targets
  • Marketing to drive and maintain occupancy rate growth
  • Managing the hiring of various contractors and other licensed professionals including overseeing all issues at the Centre
  • Management of administration, responsible for Reservations Manager and Guest Relations Officer
  • Creating strong customer service and safety focused teams
  • Developing and maintaining strong and trustworthy partnerships with Sydney Catholic Schools, other Diocesan Schools, Parish / Agency groups, communities and other groups
  • Maintaining impeccable standards of cleanliness and WH&S at the Centre at all times
  • Monitoring financials and budget of the centre including verifying and monitor invoicing
  • Ensuring our guests’ level of satisfaction are the Centre’s best advertisement

The ideal candidate should satisfy the following selection criteria:

Ideally, the Centre Managers will have:

  • 5 years minimum relevant Retreat Centre Management experience or similar
  • A personal and demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
  • Current Working With Children check in NSW
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent marketing, communication and leadership skills
  • Drive and initiative to increase the occupancy rate
  • Experience in successfully managing a budget and achieving financial revenue targets
  • Proven project management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Sound experience in leading and coaching teams
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent training
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Current Driver’s Licence with no restrictions
  • Outstanding persuasive ability and high level of communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong relationship building and management skills
  • Sound knowledge of industry regulations and legislative requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A reliable, proactive and solution focused approach to work
  • An awareness of personal and professional boundaries
  • Understand priority and ensure matters are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated adaptability skills
  • Willingness to submit to a National Criminal History Check
