The Development and Fundraising Office’s (DFO) main purpose is to raise funds for the charities of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney (CAS) through focusing its fundraising and marketing efforts and building partnerships with businesses and other Catholic associates. DFO oversees the fundraising and marketing for, The Charitable Works Fund (CWF); Priests’ Retirement Foundation (PRF); St Mary’s Cathedral (SMC); Holy Father’s and Holy Places Appeals; Bequest program and Cardinal Gilroy Society; Rome Pilgrimages and Sydney Catholic Business Network.

An opportunity is available for an experienced Director in Development and Fundraising, to develop and maintain effective methods and programs for fundraising to increase revenue for all charity and giving programs.

Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, you will manage all aspects of the DFO, including strategy development and day-to-day management of the acquisition, cultivation and retention of CAS’s charity and giving programs. This involves, overseeing the fundraising and marketing campaigns and programs.

This role is a permanent position operating in a full-time capacity and based in the Sydney CBD.

Duties of this role include:

  • Lead and inspire the team, model practices that are innovative, whilst keeping within the values and ethos of the Catholic Church and its tradition
  • Manage acquisition and retention activities including face to face programs
  • Developing and implementing DFO’s strategic plan
  • Develop new strategies and business plans that grow income, develop and maintain donor relationships
  • Achieving set targets
  • Managing the hiring of volunteers and casual professionals as required
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships at all times
  • Develop new strategies and business plans that grow income, develop and maintain donor relationships
  • Identifying, forecasting and generating financial contribution while reporting on targets in line with CAS objectives
  • Developing a presence within targeted sponsor through conducting personal visits, calls, designing and creating marketing collateral and being the first point of contact for all related enquiries

Ideally, the Director, Development and Fundraising should satisfy the following selection criteria:

  • 10 years minimum relevant Development and Fundraising Management experience
  • A personal and demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
  • Outstanding persuasive ability and high level of communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent marketing, communication and leadership skills
  • Managing and building partnerships with business and other Catholic associates
  • Current Working With Children check in NSW
  • Experience in successfully managing a budget and achieving financial revenue targets
  • Proven project management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Meeting financial targets through astute commercial management
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service and a willingness to be accountable for their performance
  • Excellent skills in relating to people at all levels and an ability to influence others on best practice.
  • Experience in leading and coaching teams
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent training
  • Strong relationship building and management skills
  • Ability to operate with discretion and to maintain complete confidentiality
  • Excellent attention to detail
