The Ephpheta Centre is a valued ministry of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, dedicated to supporting the pastoral and spiritual needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people within the Sydney Deaf community. For over 40 years, Ephpheta has faithfully served this community building a strong reputation as a trusted and respected culturally Deaf organisation. In this role you will be visiting and supporting Deaf and hard of hearing people in their homes, nursing homes, schools, parishes and providing support to the broader deaf community.

About the Role
The Community Pastoral Worker is a part-time role (22.5 hours per week) based at the Ephpheta Centre in Punchbowl, supporting the pastoral and community needs of people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing throughout the greater Sydney area.
You will visit individuals in homes, nursing homes, hospitals, schools, parishes, and other settings, offering pastoral care and building meaningful relationships within the Deaf community. You will support the work of the Ephpheta Centre through community programs, events, Masses, and other activities and groups, as well as assisting with day-to-day administrative tasks.
Working closely with the Ephpheta Centre team, you will help create a welcoming and inclusive community, supporting individuals and families.
About You
You must be fluent in Auslan and bring a strong understanding of, and respect for Deaf culture, language, and community life. You are a compassionate and community-minded person with a genuine commitment to working with and supporting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
You are confident and enjoy working with people. You understand the need for working with professionalism and maintaining confidentiality. You have experience in pastoral, community, welfare, or support-based work with the deaf community, along with the ability to contribute to programs, events, and community initiatives.
You are organised and reliable, with the ability to manage administrative tasks, maintain records, and support the day-to-day operations of the Ephpheta Centre. You work well as part of a small, collaborative team and are willing to be flexible, including occasional evening or weekend work.
Above all, you bring a spirit of service, a a commitment to supporting the Deaf community, and a desire to contribute to the mission and life of the Catholic Church through the work of the Ephpheta Centre.
