About Us
St Mary’s Cathedral is the spiritual home of Sydney’s Catholic community and is the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney. St Mary’s Cathedral Precinct (Precinct) is located in Sydney’s CBD and incorporates the Cathedral, Cathedral House, the Crypt, surrounding grounds and associated operations.
About the role
St Mary’s Cathedral is currently seeking a candidate to fill the full-time role of Administration and Social Media Assistant at St Mary’s Cathedral. The role is a varied and hands-on role based, combining front-of-house administration with digital content and social media coordination.
Working closely with the General Manager and wider team, you will be responsible for managing the reception area at Cathedral House, providing a warm and professional first point of contact for visitors, and supporting the day-to-day administrative operations of the precinct. You will also assist with the coordination of events, meetings, and enquiries, including weddings, funerals, and special liturgies.
Alongside your administrative responsibilities, you will play a key role in managing the Cathedral’s social media presence. This includes creating and scheduling content, engaging with the online community, tracking performance, and ensuring digital platforms reflect the life and activity of the Cathedral.
This is a dynamic role suited to someone who enjoys variety, is confident engaging with people, and brings both organisation and creativity to their work. You will contribute to the smooth running of Cathedral operations while helping to share its story with a wider audience.
About You
You are a friendly, organised, and proactive professional who enjoys working in a people-focused environment. You bring a strong customer service mindset and are confident acting as the first point of contact, creating a welcoming and professional experience for all visitors.
You have experience in administration, events, or a similar support role, and are comfortable managing competing priorities in a busy setting. You are confident using systems to manage bookings and event logistics, including online event platforms or diary systems, and are quick to learn new tools such as Eventpro or EventsAir.
Your attention to detail and organisational skills enable you to keep processes running smoothly, while your flexibility allows you to adapt to changing needs throughout the day.
You also have an interest in digital communications and are confident using social media platforms to create and share engaging content. You stay up to date with current trends and are comfortable using tools such as Canva or similar platforms to support content creation and reporting.
You are a clear communicator, able to engage effectively with colleagues, clergy, and members of the public, and you work well both independently and as part of a team. Above all, you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an appreciation for working within a respectful, values-based environment.
